It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood since the streaming platform Twitch will be hosting a 18-day Marathon of Mister Rogers. Now the reason for this is actually for a good cause. The channel running the marathon will have a donation panel where the viewers can donate money, and all the proceeds will go towards local PBS stations.
This isn’t the first time Twitch has something like this. Twitch is mainly known for it’s live stream of video games, but little by little they have been branching out. They’ve done a few live stream like this with Bob Ross The Joy of Painting and Julia Child French Chef.
Earlier in March, Twitch did a stream that’s still going on today, with all 23 seasons of Power Rangers.
In an interview with TechCrunch, Jane Weedon the director of business development hinted this marathon is to take a jab on President Trump. Solely because his administration proposed to cut funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
Weedon went on to say, Mister Roger not only brings a different type of show into the mix, but it’s coming at a time when the importance of PBS is very topical. It’s a beautiful day on Twitch.”
Mister Rogers Neighborhood made it’s debut in 1968 and aired until 2001. The shows targeted demographic was for preschoolers, and hosted by yours truly Fred Rogers. The show intention was to spread positivity and show children how unique and special they are.
That’s actually how the Fred Rogers Company got Twitch to be on board with all of this. They saw it as a well to get more people to visit their website and get more traffic, with children who wouldn’t usually go on Twitch. Even in the chat, they will be introducing new emjoi’s that you can use exclusively for this stream. King Friday, Queen Sara, X the Owl, and even the Trolley are some of the emojis that will be available for people who subscribe to the Twitch Mister Rogers Channel.
