The Defenders Review

The long anticipated wait for the Defenders was well worth it. Being able to see our favorite street level heroes team up was something worth witnessing. Now the Defenders was something that has been building up since DareDevil season one which debuted on April 10, 2015. Ending with Season one of Iron Fist that made it’s debut on March 17, 2017.

Personally I find myself looking forward more and more towards the Netflix marvel, because I love seeing such grounded heros that struggle with living dual lives. Seeing the struggle of balancing a healthy normal life and fighting crime at night is almost a work of art on it’s own. But one of the few things I enjoy to watch is witnessing them get beaten to near death, just because in a way it humanizes them and you can see there limits.

The show starts off with a strong start that’s impossible to hate. It picks off immediately where they all left off with Danny hunting the Hand getting no where, Mattew helping out the little people in law cases, Jessica dealing with the aftermath of what happened to her and KillGrave, and lastly Luke getting out of prison and continuing his life.

Netflix did another amazing job at humanizing them with Danny being haunted by his decision of leaving k’un lun and seeing his dead comrades, it really adds a whole new element on his character and how he views himself. Jessica being in denial with becoming a hero, Matt struggling not to put on his suit and protect his beloved city. It was one thing I personally enjoyed.

The way all of their stories intertwine is really natural and well done. With Iron Fist hunting down the Hand leading him directly to a kids that Cage was following, which leads to a fun little back way alley fight between the unbreakable man and the immortal Iron Fist. As well with Jessica being in illegal troubles out of nowhere Murdock comes out of nowhere to defend her as her lawyer. It all went smooth and was pleasing to see.

How they all decide to aline themselves to defeating the Hand was very Tony Stark With Rand convincing the rest of the team to unite. There are a lot of comedic parts of where the writers are self aware of how ridiculous it is to run around at night in a costume, or claim to fight a dragon to unlock your “Chi”. The chemistry of the cast is fantastic you can see a lot of moments of Danny and Luke getting along hinting at the “Heroes for Hire” story arc where the two of them charge money to do heroic duties.

To go further more with Luke there are plenty of moments where he acts like the ladies man he is. Lots of moments you can obviously tell he is not completely over Jessica, and she feels the exact same way about him. With her making a lot of sexual jokes with him, and not to mention the tension between the two of them. Almost in a way making a love triangle between Luke, Jessica, and Claire it’ll be interesting to see this unfold. Mainly because in the comics Jessica and Luke end up being together and having kids.

As well as Daredevil with being broken, with the aftermath of everything that has happened to him. Throughout the whole show he constantly keeps secrets from the team .He wants nothing to do with the rest of them, seeing him come around and trust them was great. As well him trying constantly trying to break through to Electra no matter the cost and refusing to let her go because of how much he loves her.

Jessica Jones perhaps had the full hero’s journey as opposed to everyone else. Denying everything and wanting nothing to do with the Hand, and the fight even though she knew what they can do. She’s not one to get along with people and team up seeing her being able to team up and get along was strange but nice to see.

Even seeing them all turn and fight each other was awesome, they all didn’t agree with each other throughout the show, it’ll even make you hate Iron Fist a little bit more as well. Mainly because he’s acting like a little brat. Which leads to him fighting all of the defenders that doesn’t end all that well for him. But I could see why due to his ties with k’un lun and his deep hate with the Hand.

The Hand was a fun villain. Because you get to view things from there side which doesn’t happen all that often, even showing off all the other members as well. One of the biggest shockers was to find out that Gao wasn’t the one in charge which is what we’ve been lead to believe this whole time. Seeing them in action in full force was new and exciting.

The ending left the possibilities endless now. Jessica went back to being a P.I. and with the announcement of KillGrave in season two, Luke going back to have his life, Danny protecting the city. Which might hint at him suiting up to be DareDevil like he does for a short time in the comics. Also with Misty and her missing arm will she end up getting her robotic arm? But most important with the Devil Of Hell’s Kitchen himself still being alive with a nun calling for his mother to see him, which raises more questions like did Gao, and Electra survive too?

The show was fun to watch and I give it a 9/10

If you consider yourself a gamer I’m willing to say, that you’ve heard of the massive hit PlayersUnknown for the PC. This game has taken the internet by storm with 8 million copies sold since March! The indie shooter has been considered by many one of the best games to come out of 2017, with a growing player base.

If you haven’t heard or seen gameplay of it, it’s a simple game to understand. You can play with friends or go solo but you’re dropped off on a deserted island with 100 other players. The objective of the game is to be the last man or team standing while surviving a onslaught of the other players trying to kill you with weapons they’ve looted, or run you over with vehicles they’ve found. All while trying not to be murdered by your fellow players the map will close in forcing you to close in on other players, if you decide not to cooperate you’ll be killed by the game. In a nutshell that’s the game.

Since E3 Playersuknown or PUBG for short had made the announcement that it will be coming Xbox One as an exclusive, making a lot of gamers thrilled. As of right now PUBG has been solely on the PC and hasn’t been on any console.

The PlayerUnknown himself Brendan Greene has come out, and officially state that Microsoft Studios will be the official publisher for console So now his development team Korean Studio Bluehole have the full dispense of Microsoft at their use. So it’s no doubt that the game will strive to be better than ever now. Who’s Ready for a 18-day Marathon of Mister Rogers?

It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood since the streaming platform Twitch will be hosting a 18-day Marathon of Mister Rogers. Now the reason for this is actually for a good cause. The channel running the marathon will have a donation panel where the viewers can donate money, and all the proceeds will go towards local PBS stations.

This isn’t the first time Twitch has something like this. Twitch is mainly known for it’s live stream of video games, but little by little they have been branching out. They’ve done a few live stream like this with Bob Ross  The Joy of Painting and Julia Child French Chef.

Earlier in March, Twitch did a stream that’s still going on today, with all 23 seasons of Power Rangers.

In an interview with TechCrunch, Jane Weedon the director of business development hinted this marathon is to take a jab on President Trump. Solely because his administration proposed to cut funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Weedon went on to say, Mister Roger not only brings a different type of show into the mix, but it’s coming at a time when the importance of PBS is very topical. It’s a beautiful day on Twitch.”

Mister Rogers Neighborhood made it’s debut in 1968 and aired until 2001. The shows targeted demographic was for preschoolers, and hosted by yours truly Fred Rogers. The show intention was to spread positivity and show children how unique and special they are.

That’s actually how the Fred Rogers Company got Twitch to be on board with all of this. They saw it as a well to get more people to visit their website and get more traffic, with children who wouldn’t usually go on Twitch. Even in the chat, they will be introducing new emjoi’s that you can use exclusively for this stream. King Friday, Queen Sara, X the Owl, and even the Trolley are some of the emojis that will be available for people who subscribe to the Twitch Mister Rogers Channel.

The Value Of Life

This last week taught me a how quickly a life could be taken away, as well on how much you should value everything you have.

Last week I took my mother to the ER due to stomach pains she had. From the time it took me to get into the car to the ER it didn’t really hit me what was fully going on. But the moment she sat in the hospital bed being injected by all sorts of different medicine, It was right there it hit me what exactly was going on, and how severe this could be for everyone in my family. They had informed me that she had a infection in her stomach and it needed to be removed as soon as possible with an emergency surgery.

The feeling I had was something I hope to never feel again in a long time. All of the emotions in my mind felt like a giant wreck; I didn’t know what to do next. all I knew was that I was going to be there for my mother and hope she comes out all right. I didn’t want to leave her sight; even going use the restroom felt wrong leaving my mother for a second, it didn’t sit right with me. I couldn’t bring myself to leave her because my whole life even till now, she has looked after me. So I felt it was only right I muscled through and be strong for her

I was in a room with her for hours, but the moment I decided to get out and catch some fresh air they took her and began to prep for surgery.  I never felt so ashamed just the fact that I wasn’t there to be with her when she was taken into surgery. I wanted her to see a familiar face before she left. I didn’t want to lose her just like how I lost my father and grandfather

As I waited for her to return back into her room, I had time to think about life. So I started to ponder and I realized how quickly something you love so much could be taken away from you, just like that in a heartbeat. Everything you have in life should be cherished no matter what because you never know how or when it will be taken away from you.

The value of life is something that isn’t easy to grasp but you begin to get a handle on it once you’re put in a difficult situation. It’s a situation people shouldn’t have to face but when you do, you emerge a better person with more of an understanding of things.

And then I had that moment of peace, I had finally seen her fresh out of surgery. I couldn’t hold in tears not only for joy but because of how it reminded me of my father and grandfather. It was a pain I didn’t want to have. But after I got over that hump I spoke to her and told her how much I loved her. Throughout that whole experience, i had realized that she’s not going to be here forever, and that I should never take her for granted. She did raise me and love/support me with everything I did in life. Even though she knows I’d do anything for her, I know I should always make her feel loved and appreciated.  Â

Google Buys Owlchemy Labs

Early today (May 10th) Google announced their purchase of Owlchemy Labs. For those of you who don’t know who they are, they’re the creators behind Job Simulator, and Rick and Morty:Virtual Rick-ality. They’ll be releasing a few VR games for a couple of different platforms. It’s also important to add that Google has bought a couple of other studios such as Tilt Brush, Skillman, & Hackett back in 2015. Other VR companies.

“We have a slate of original games that we have in production and prototyping phase, and we’re going to continue to do that” said by the co-found Alex Schwartz.

Schwartz then added“We’re very excited to continue to do that with the support of Google behind us”

Owlchemy is mostly known for developing games that mimic real hand movements. They try there best to give you a real immersive VR experience. And with a recent blog post it seems that they’re going to keep true to their roots.

Schwartz stated “Continuing to focus on hand interactions and high quality user experiences, like with Job Simulator.” -”Kind of our key factor”

This goes hand in hand with google current VR platform, Daydream which uses a remote that involves moment. Much like the Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive. The VR and AR(Augmented Reality) engineering director Relja Markovic has high hopes for his this purchase. Stating “ We have a pretty big vision”. Markovic then went on to say “Daydream’s a great production-I love daydream. But there will be many, many things that come after that.”

What he truly meant by that is anyone’s guess and could be interpreted any way. Even though Google is making all these big moves it has made some VR experiences for people who do not own Google headsets like Tilt Brush, and Google Earth. But with all the recent moves made by Google it seems to be that they are moving into making something bigger with their current Platform Daydream.

Schwartz and Markovic will still deal heavily the VR development community, sharing their knowledge and best practices. As well as potentially contributing to Google’s experimental Daydream Lab programs.

It’s important to note that Owlchemy didn’t start off as a VR studio at all. When they began back in 2011 they made indie games and they caught a lot of attention with their controversial game Smuggle Truck. But they decided to make VR games when Oculus released a VR kit, making Job Simulator that was available on all major VR platforms. The game did so good it passed $3million in sales at the start of 2017.

The Defenders Trailer Break Down

May 3rd Marvel dropped a pleasant surprise on all of us. It’s no secret that the Netflix division of Marvel has been building up for sometime now the Defenders with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. They finally show us some tidbits of the actual defenders now.

Based off the first few seconds it seems like it’s going to mostly have a the darker tone that we’re used to seeing in Daredevil. From the camera angles to the usage of the song “Smells like teen spirit” by Nirvana.

It kickstarts with Jessica Jones in trouble with the law being integrated by Misty Knight who we’ve seen in Luke Cage season one. With out of the blue Matthew Murdock aka Daredevil coming in to defend her as her lawyer. It seems like the way all of our beloved heroes meet is going to be very natural and not forced at all.

On the other hand the way Danny Rand on Luke Cage cross paths is going to be solely on Claire Temple. Even though she is the one thing connecting all four of our heros directly she did play more of an emotional role to some more than others. With that said it doesn’t seem like those two first encounter is going to be all happy and thrilling.

The aftermath of Daredevil season two and Iron Fist season one are going to play a huge role in the Defenders, because of how heavily they deal with the hand. They even show off Stick who helped Daredevil take on the hand. From the looks of it he might play a role of a mentor or a teacher for them all. They even show Elektra looking as badass as usual.

But the trailer doesn’t confirm that the hand will be the major villain at all. It does tell us that they will be fighting a huge underground criminal syndicate, and whoever they are fighting is something that is much bigger than they are. The Netflix Marvel as a usual tone of being darker than it’s TV and Movies, and it seems to be the same with this one too. The Defenders will launch globally on August 18th, 2017.
