Thor Ragnarok Movie Review

Well I must say that Marvel has out done themselves this time around. It seems to be that they keep upping the stakes with every movie lately, Thor being a perfect example of it. They really got out of there comfort zone and it really paid off.

It was clear from the opening scene what type of movie this was going to be, an action comedy flick. Which isn’t new at all for them (hints Guardians of the Galaxy 1-2 and Spiderman). But it was new for the character of Thor, sure he does have some comedic parts in his previous solo movies, but it was nothing like this. We mainly know him as this mystic catcher that’s full of wisdom and higher knowledge. It was great seeing him in a whole new way. And finally accepting the role he of what he was born to do.

Bruce Banner aka the Hulk perhaps may have sacrificed the most. Seeing him first appear as the Hulk filled with nothing but pure anger, is nothing new at all. Seeing this beast act as a big baby was the icing on the cake to love him even more, it makes him like a loveable giant. But the more they establish why the way he is, is really heartbreaking. He was always viewed as  A losing battle with the Hulk and fear of not becoming Banner ever again is a problem he is forced to face.

Not to mention the whole journey with his brother that we all love to hate Loki. Seeing how he has been since his last appearance in Thor 2 the Dark World, was very interesting. It shouldn’t of come to anyone’s surprise to see how he tricked everyone into seeing something that wasn’t there. After everything he’s been through he still hasn’t changed a bit but, that’s what everyone seems to love about him. But he does go through his own hero’s journey in his own way throughout the movie, it’s interesting to see how greedy he can truly be when the stakes are so high. But oh well what can you expect from the god of mischief

The Villain, oh my the villain! I keep telling myself “This was my favorite villain, no wait this one was”. Simply put she was badass! It’s not often we see a villain that you kind of want to win solely due to how awesome she is. Her motives where clear from the start to finish Cate Blanchett as Hela was definitely award winning. Every scene she was in I was found myself getting scared of everyone around her because that’s how ruthless she was.

Another badass female role in this movie was Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie. She was as beautiful as she was dangerous. She easily had the full hero’s journey in this movie, with coming to terms with her inner demons. She is given a mysterious role at first that constantly teases you for more. I hope they show more of her off in future Marvel movies.

But let’s not forget about the comedic villain as I like to call him. Jeff Goldblum role as the GrandMaster. Although he easily gets over shadowed by Hela he plays a big role to the MCU as a whole. He helped explained the comic lore in the MCU establishing that there are countless beings out there, it is important to add that Guardians of the Galaxy has already done this. But this just adds on to it. Every scene he as in you find yourself laughing it him for something new every time, and it’s nice that Marvel decided to do that with this character.

The supporting cast was by far the best, some where badass warriors, or some where just gentle giants. Everyone one in that movie served a purpose and it seemed like they all enjoyed working on this film. Giving it their all as comedic or serious parts for such small roles. They even went as far as getting some characters we’ve seen in previous movies to make an appearance in Ragnarok.

Overall Thor was great! From the cheesy sci fi music, to the fight scenes that we all love. This is a must watch that I highly recommend. Giving it a 9.5/10

Save The Bees

Are you a coffee lover? If so I have some bad news for you. A research team modeled Latin America, specifically where coffee is grown. The team studied the area under several global warming scenarios found it could be problematic in the future for coffee and bees in Latin America.

“The team consisted of experts from the Smithsonian in Panama; the International Center for Tropical Agriculture in Vietnam; the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center in Costa Rica; Conservation International and the University of Vermont in the U.S.; CIRAD in France; and CIFOR in Peru.”

With all the different scenes played out only about five species of bees survived, in coffee suitable areas. With only 10 species surviving.

With huge chunks of land no longer suitable for coffee, it forced experts to look for alternatives. By switching crops or production system where bees are predicted to have a decrease in.  Some of the strategies may help increase bee habits as well as helping to keep native bees around. Lots of different coffee types grow in large trees with plenty of shade, so that way it can lure in a specific bees.

Although intense studies were factored, one thing they didn’t think about was Africanized Honey Bees. They were accidentally released in Brazil in 1957. Where many natives thought that they would destroy anything in their sight and damage the ecosystem. But they were wrong;, Africanized Honey Bees worked just as hard fertilizing the local plants. Which made more pollen and nature to the native bees.

“Africanized honey bees in the Western Hemisphere both regulate their nest temperature and their own body temperature using water” “When the climate is hotter — unless it’s too dry — they’re better adapted to endure climate change and pollinate coffee — an African plant” stated by  David Roubik a entomologist at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute .

Even with climate change making it harder to produce coffee, it still very well may be possible for coffee producers making coffee.

China set up Hack Proof internet

China has set up its first “commercial” use of quantum internet in the northern area of Shandong. This is their latest move in advancing themselves in technology, with claims of this being considered “Hack Proof”. This isn’t the first time they’ve set up a “Hack Proof” communication early this month they did they same thing with Quantum Communications, with sending unhackable information with using only water.

China prides themselves for being on the forefront in the development of quantum Technology. Early in august they successfully sent it’s first unbreakable quantum code, in a prototype satellite to earth. This phenomenal breakthrough was so amazing that the pentagon themselves said it was “notable advance” reported by The Independent.

The Quantum Internet has been set up exclusively by government and official users in Shandong capital Jinan. Although it is not clear on how the system would be operated on such a huge scale.

What this network provides is top shelf protection when using telephone and data communications. So you can communicate without the fear of someone tapping into your network. It’s expected to be connected to Beijing-Shanghai quantum network.

Even though China is at the forefront with this technology that doesn’t mean other countries haven’t been studying this as well. The United States has been studying this for years, but China has been fortunate enough to be the one make it more of a household name.

Nanomachines Kill Cancer

What a time to be alive. Scientist have developed nanomachines that can kill cancer in 60 seconds! The way they’re worked is by little molecules that are driven by light that make their way through the cell lining then activate. A test done at Durham University took about one to three minutes to totally kill prostate cancer!

Dr. Robert Pal of the University of Durham stated “We are moving towards realising our ambition to be able to use light-activated nanomachines to target cancer cells such as those in breast tumours and skin melanomas, including those that are resistant to existing chemotherapy.”

“Once developed, this approach could provide a potential step change in non-invasive cancer treatment and greatly improve survival rates and patient welfare globally.”

In order for this to work the nanomachines need to spin about two to three million times per second, to assure it was smoothly. The molecules being transferred at as a therapeutic agent, or a killer that open tumor membranes. These nanomachines are so tiny it would take about 50,000 of them, to make up one strand of hair.

Dr. James Tour a member of Rice University in Houston stated “These nanomachines are so small that we could park 50,000 of them across the diameter of a human hair, yet they have the targeting and actuating components combined in that diminutive package to make molecular machines a reality for treating disease.”

“For many years I never had envisioned the nanomachines being used medically, I thought they were way too small, because they are much much smaller than a cell, but now this work has really changed my thoughts on this and I think therapeutically this will be a whole new way to treat patients, it’s going to be an excellent application for cancer treatment, not just for killing of cells but for the treatment of cells, interacting with the human body using molecular machines.”

This is a huge breakthrough in the world of modern medicine. Because if perfected this could be use to kill all sorts of cancer! As well as deliver medicine at a faster and more effect way.

Self Driving Cars are Closer Than You Think

Self driving cars are becoming more and more in talks now, as technology improves itself. So much now that the House of Bill pass a bill to speed production on them. For years people have wanted this and there have been a few. But at high end prices. Now hopefully with this bill passed they won’t cost as much, just like Tesla when they announced their newest model.

The vote was passed by a voice vote. And most of the concerns from government officials were all the horrible possibilities that could come of this. But to make everyone happy the state will regulate if they want self driving cars on there road. Which is new because federal looks at drivers while state looks at vehicles.

To no surprise automotive companies supported this bill. Claiming that it would lower traffic fatalities by a significant number, as well as many other benefits. They even stated that early estimates of crashes last year where 40,000. And 94% of all crashes is due to humans not machines.

The House of Bills are working very closely with both Democrats and Republicans to see that this bill’s goes through smoothly. But it seems to be working because Democrat Debbie Dingell stated “is fundamentally an issue of American competitiveness”. As well as Republican Fred Upton saying “gives the auto industry the tools to revolutionize how we’re going to get around for generations to come”.

This bill will allow up to 25,00 cars its first year. While rising 100,000 yearly in its third year. Even though the government is on board doesn’t mean a lot of the public is. Safety groups and consumers are concerned this will, weaken safety rules on the road. Because a defect might happen that could lead to more accidents. Automakers response to combat this was safety requiring things like steering wheels and brake pedals simply do not make sense. Simply because it defeats the purpose of self driving. But the government could still enforce safety test as they please.

Probably one of the best things about this bill is it doesn’t affect commercial vehicles. So it won’t cost people their jobs at all. Which is always a concern for people when this topic comes up.

Why HollyWood Critics are ruining movies

More and more before movies come out the first thing you see is it’s Rotten Tomatoes score, or what it scored on IMDB. People more and more are letting other people tell them what is and what isn’t a good movie. For this reason alone it’s ruining a lot of movies for people everywhere.

One of the most perfect examples of this is when BvS(Batman vs Superman) came out the early reviews on the movie had already doomed it for lots of potential viewers. For the ones that went go to see it, they had the mentality that it wasn’t going to be a good movie at all and left with the same opinion because of the ratings it had gotten.

This alone is robbing people of forming there own opinion. And creating a mob mentality where just because a group of people hated whatever movie it was you have to hate it too, or fear being made fun of. For the few that actually liked a movie that had gotten bad reviews it makes them afraid to come out and say it was a good movie, because of what others will say about them or think of them.

It has the same effect for movies that get good ratings as well. If you sit through a whole movie that is deemed good by many but not by you, you’ll get tons of backlash if you decide to voice your opinion on such topic.

People now more than ever need to stop going to websites such as Rotten Tomatoes Metacritic or blogs like the Waffle Press, to tell them what they should and shouldn’t like. They should go into a movie not caring what others will say about it and form their own solid opinion on if they liked it or not. So that way they can get a more true original opinion on what they just saw, and not what others told them.

10 easy study tips

Hey Roadrunners welcome back to Rio Hondo for the Fall 2017 semester. One thing that a lot of students have trouble with is studying, something that we all need to do to in order to become successful students. Google defines studying as “devote time and attention to acquiring knowledge on (an academic subject), especially by means of books.” Lots of people have there own way of studying, but I’ll tell you 10 easy study tips for the Fall 2017 semester.

The most common one is getting together with your peers and forming a study group. I found it very helpful discussing, what I had just gone over with my fellow classmates so that way I could better understand it. It’s also great too because there might be something you may of missed that one of your peers caught, and they’ll be able to show you.

Another great tip is going to your professor doing his or hers office hours. Usually on  the first day of school all professors hand out a syllabus with their office hours on it, as well as the location of their office. They will have no problem helping out one of their students when they’re in need after all that’s what they’re paid to do. Plus who else is better to ask than the professor themselves they know the material better than any other student in the class.

Taking good notes is the backbone of succeeding in college. You have to make sure that your writing is clean and precise to what your professor is talking about. It’s common for students to feel rushed during a lecture and write sloppy and fast(that’s okay). As long as you go back and rewrite your notes so you can better understand them, the faster the better so you won’t forget what the lesson was about.

Most if not all professors let you record lectures if you simply ask them to do so. Many students have found this method to be really effective because it puts you right back to when they were teaching. One of two students might ask a interesting question that you may have forgotten to write down, but now you can because you have the class on either audio or video. It allows you to relive the class in a sense. But it’s important that whoever your professor is gives you permission to do so.

If you ever need a nice silent spot to crack open your books and study, our helpful library offers study rooms to anyone who comes in and reserves one. These rooms are most effective because it’s just you or however you have to study. The library alone is a quite place and the study rooms are even more silent, so you shouldn’t have any distractions at all.

Use one of the oldest tricks in the book use flash cards. This is a study method that has been around almost as long as schools been invented. The reason why this is such a good method is because, it simulates a test in some ways. Write down the question on one side and the answer on the other. This is especially good for math write down the formal and question and try to figure it out. Even English with definitions. It’s a solid method that works for almost every subject.

Pace yourself try not to overwhelm yourself. It’s common for students to just devote hours to study all at once. This could be dangerous because you might get sleepy, bored, or daze off. Study in shifts for about 15-30 mins at a time, with 5 minute breaks in between so you can wind down. You might find it very helpful because you’re trying to cram everything within a long time.

Reward yourself who doesn’t like gifts. If you have 50 math problems to do answer about 10 and treat yourself, with a nice little snack or go on your phone. Even you have to read a few chapters do the same trick but this time check out what going on, on twitter. With rewarding yourself it gives you more motivation to study.

Have other someone test you. The only way to truly know if you understand the topic is by taking the test right. As soon as you feel like you completely understand whatever it is your studying, give a list of questions to someone and have them ask you. Try to get as many right as you possibly can. It’ll boost your self esteem and make you more confident come test day.

Lastly just head down to the LRC. They offer tons of help and offer to tutor you all free of charge. All you need to do is sign in and ask for help it’s that simple. They even offer computers for you to use for whatever school needs you have. They have lots of resources over there to help you in whatever you need.

Alright roadrunners there’s a couple helpful study tips. Hopefully these help all you succeed this semester. Good look and don’t forget studying is the backbone to succeeding.
